A cochlear implant is an implanted electronic hearing device, designed to produce useful hearing sensations to a person with severe to profound nerve deafness by electrically stimulating nerves inside the inner ear.

A cochlear implant consists of 2 main components:

  • The externally worn microphone, sound processor and transmitter system.
  • The implanted receiver and electrode system, which contains the electronic circuits that receive signals from the external system and send electrical currents to the inner ear.

Currently most devices have a magnet that holds the external system in place next to the implanted internal system. The external system may be worn entirely behind the ear or its parts may be worn in a pocket, belt pouch, or harness.

No. JLCIF’s funds go towards ensuring current cochlear implant recipients have the working external equipment that they need.

However, most insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid do cover the cost of the cochlear implant surgery.

No. We do our best to help as many cochlear implant recipients as possible, but demand often exceeds our available funds. Applicants will be notified via email if their request is approved.

Every insurance policy is different, as well as Medicare and Medicaid. Please check with your provider before applying to JLCIF for equipment support.

JLCIF is committed to ensuring existing cochlear implant recipients remain “on the air”.

We provide external equipment (to approved applicants) that is critical for CI recipients to remain with sound such as batteries, cable coils and refurbished sound processors.

Yes. The Joyful Life Cochlear Implant Fund is an exempt organization as described in Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code; (EIN  85-1652775).

Confidence coaching helps anyone who is tied down and stuck by their lack of self-esteem, shyness, limiting beliefs and fear. Confidence coaching will help you to “reprogram” these areas, improve your self-acceptance and overall feelings about yourself to empower you to achieve your full potential in all areas of your life.
